Severed Kadpoly Staff Cry Out over Underpayment of Pensions ,Gratuity …urge Buhari to intervene

Retrenched staff of Kaduna Polytechnic under aegis of Kaduna Polytechnic Severed Staff,(KAPSSA) have again cried out over what they termed ,” gross Underpayment of pensions and gratuity”.
The 1, 017 staff severed from the services of Kaduna Polytechnic in 2008, who urged President Muhammadu to intervene immediately, said a situation where a wrong salary structure (2006 HATTISS) is corruptively and retrospectively used to compute our entitlements is unacceptable and must be corrected .
The affected Staff in a statement signed by Mr. Austin Umerah ,the Secretary of KAPSSA said they ; “were verified for pension on August 2011 and the template for the computation of all severed staff entitlements which was provided by the Federal Government and used for all Federal establishment’s severed staff computation was jettisoned in our case.”
” The verification was done under the leadership of Mrs. BH Auta of BPSR and till date the verified figures were never paid neither is the 10% template pension applied.
“The template specifically stipulated 10% of annual pension computation as the monthly pension which meant that verification undertaken by BPSRIPENCOM was not only to ascertain who qualified for pension but also to ensure accurate computation of each retiree’s monthly pension.
” Currently our monthly pension is neither the verified figure nor the specified 10% pension for the first year as stipulated

i

n the template.
“We have been corruptively denied our rightful pensions and
gratuities for about eleven years such that our members verified to receive (N8000 or Template computed N98300 ie 10% pension) have been receiving N4500 monthly as pension which is about half of the verified figure.
“Our Gratuities which have been calculated on 2003 salary instead of our 2008 exit salary are grossly underpaid.”

GROSS UNDERPAYMENT OF PENSIONS AND GRATUITIES KADUNA POLYTECHNIC SEVERED STAFF CONUNDRUM)
About 1017 of us were severed from the services of the Kaduna Polytechnic in 2008. Without any premonition that we were going to be retrenched, we came to work as usual on the faithful day and our heads of Department asked us to go to our Directors offices to collect our letters and to our astonishment it was that of severance.
OUR CONCERN:
The bone of contention is that our salary structure at the time of exit in 2008 was CONTISS.
The wrong salary structure (2006 HATTISS) was corruptively and retrospectively used to compute our entitlements.
Initially, the Polytechnic with the connivance of one “Rich” Mrs
Auta of BPSR refused to pay us our three months in lieu- of notice. It was when Dr Aliyu Mamman became the acting Rector two years later that he realized the injustice and decided to pay
us. He also promised to ensure that we were paid all our rightful gratuities, monthly pensions and accumulated arrears .Unfortunately he was shortchanged by some egometrically ambitious staff that later occupied his position.
We were verified for pension on August 2011 and the template for the computation of all severed staff s entitlements which was provided by the Federal Government and used for all Federal establishment’s severed staff computation was jettisoned in our case
The verification was done under the leadership of Mrs. BH
Auta of BPSR and till date the verified figures were never paid
neither is the 10% template pension applied.
The template specifically stipulated 10% of annual pension computation as the monthly pension which meant that verification undertaken by BPSRIPENCOM was not only to ascertain who qualified for pension but also to ensure accurate computation of each retiree’s monthly pension.
Currently our monthly pension is neither the verified figure nor the specified 10% pension for the first year as stipulated
in the template.
We have been corruptively denied our rightful pensions and
gratuities for about eleven years such that our members verified to receive (N8000 or Template computed N98300 i.e 10% pension) have been receiving N4500 monthly as pension which is about half of the verified figure.
Our Gratuities which have been calculated on 2003 salary
instead of our 2008 exit salary are grossly underpaid.
As at 2013 we were owed 19 months defective pension arrears by NICON but were paid 10months on 24’01/2014
with a promise by the Rector that the outstanding 9 months would be paid later. Till date, we have not been paid
Currently only 90 of our members who were denied their monthly pension for 66months are receiving their accurate
verified figures while over 800 of us are receiving half of our verified figures s, we were expected to receive 5 years 33% pension increment arrears but only two and half years have been spuriously paid.
The Polytechnic had presented the accurately computed 2010 verified figure to PTAD Executive Secretary. However, towards the end of October 2019, the Rector notified us that PTAD would be coming to the Polytechnic to carryout verification in order to rectify our pensions / gratuities anomalies. Our members were delighted. Their proposed visit is still phantasmagorical because our members have been waiting anxiously for it to come to fruition.
We wish to emphasize that the money to offset our accumulated arrears is available in the contributory pension
fund because we contributed to that fund and since we left the service up till date, the federal government has been
contributing to our retirement savings accounts.
Please our members are dying, hungry and withdrawn. It is mortifying to receive half of ones rightful entitlement amidst the nexus of family responsibilities.
Please we need your urgent
intervention to put a salve on our dejected members. Please
consider what N4300 miscalculated monthly pension will do for a
retiree with family after putting in several years’ service.
Austin O. Umerah(Secretary KAPSSA)
