Shettima meets NEDC board members …calls for synergy with incoming administration
Members of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) have been enjoined to create synergy with Governors in the region to achieve a common goal.
Governor Kashim Shettima gave the advice when the Board Chairman of the Commission, Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd.) alongside the Managing Director, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali led other members of the commission to a courtesy call to the Governor at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Governor Shettima had while congratulating the members of the board said setting up the North East Development Commission is a welcome development to people of the zone considering their predicament as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Governor, who said that would be his last public function as Governor of Borno State, showered encomiums on the Chairman as a leader, an upright, detribalised and open minded individual, urged him and members of the board to create a synergy between the incoming administration and the board to achieve the desired goal.
Governor Shettima said Borno being the epicentre of the Boko Haram crises has suffered serious setbacks, describing citing of the commission’s head office in Maiduguri as a right step in the right direction, stressing the need for them to look for holistic approaches for mid-term and long term solutions.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), General Paul Tarfa (retd.) told the Governor that they are in the State for an on the spot assessment with a view to commencing their official works immediately.
Gen. Tarfa had while reading out the aims and objectives of the commission, said the NEDC was established with a responsibility among others of receiving and managing funds allocated by the federal, state, and international donors for resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstructions of roads, houses and business premises.
The Chairman commended Governor Shettima saying he was privileged to see for himself quite a lot he has been seeing in pictures in the State in real life at the hands of the Governor elect, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum who took them round, adding that he isn’t surprised because the Governor is a man of foresight and direction. He thanked the Borno State Government for providing them with offices et al, adding that the headquarters of the commission will be located in Maiduguri.
