Man 26, Buries 5 months old Daughter Alive over brawl with wife

Mr. Anthony Sunday Nwankwegu has been arraigned by Nigeria Police Force, Ebonyi State command for burying his 5 months old daughter alive at his Okwerika Village, Abaomege in Onicha Council area of the state.
It was gathered that Mr. Anthony Sunday Nwankwegu due to his usual misunderstanding and brawl with his wife decided to terminate the life of their breast feeding daughter.
However, Anthony’s wife was after which the 5 months old daughter, Roseline slept; left her under the custody of her husband with the babe’s siblings; proceeded to go and sell Kerosene, asking her husband to take care of their daughter while she would equally go to recover some debts.
It was revealed that Mr. Anthony having seen the woman had left, took the little girl whom he named after his mother In-law to the back of his yam barn where he buried her alive.
Our reporter also gathered that the little girl’s disappearance and untimely death where not noticed by anybody till her mother came back home, searching for her to breastfeed .
When she asked her husband about the little girl, he could not say any word.
The woman raised alarm which attracted the attention of other people around there, before the people could know, the said Mr. Anthony ran out from the vicinity, but was later traced to his hidden place, Egboekwuru in Ideba council area, Cross River state.
He was arrested and handed over to police by the angry youth for proper prosecution after the man was taken by the police along side the community people to the shallow grave where he buried the little girl.
The girl’s corpse was exhumed with some parts of her body which were still hot, a sign proved that she struggled to be relieved of the inhumanity touch before giving up to the ghost.
Consequently, the woman’s family has taken her back to her biological, vowing that nothing would get her remarried to the suspect.
DSP Loveth Odah, the state Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the report, said, the police have arrested the suspect.
The said suspect, Mr. Anthony Sunday Nwankwegu has been reportedly arraigned before the Abakaliki court presided by Magistrate Ruth Okeh in the suit numbered MAB/357C/2019 for a count charge of causing the death of Roseline whom he buried alive.
According to the Magistrate, Mr. Anthony Sunday Nwankwegu has committed offence punishable according to section 319(1) of criminal code CAP 33 Volume 1 Laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria, 2009.
Due to the gravity of the offence which is above the jurisdiction of magistrate court, the trial magistrate ordered the remand of the accused in Abakaliki Federal prison; and instructed the police to forward all documents related to the evidence found to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further prosecution.
The matter currently is adjourned to July 29, 2019; waiting for the report of compliance from the court as the state PPRO, DSP Loveth Odah informed us that the little girl’s exhumed body has been deposited in the mortuary.
The State PPRO also hinted, that the suspect had confessed to the crime, attributing the cause of his action to devil, insisting that it was not deliberate to engage in such evil act.
Meanwhile, the police mouth piece, DSP Odah had condemned the act, saying that the man should face the wrath of law to serve as a deterrent to his likes, adjudged for his jail by the court.
