Ebonyi Police Command, Friday paraded suspected criminals and armed bandits with sophisticated elements recovered from the suspects yet under police custody, saying they were caught for involving in activities of crimes ranging from kidnapping, cultism and armed robbery.

Ebonyi Commissioner of Police, CP. Awosola Awotinde, made these known while briefing newsmen in the state command, Abakaliki.

CP Awotinde said that his men picked into action after the launching of ‘Operation Puff Adder’ by Inspector-General of Police IGP at the command level on 16th April, 2019; and have made successes and breakthroughs on that order.

The CP further stated that, the command has arrested 4 suspected notorious kidnappers, armed robbers and car snatchers, with 7 stolen vehicles recovered.
In his words, “on 8th May, 2019, one Barr. Igwe Chigozie (male) was kidnapped at gunpoint in front of his house in Abakaliki, in his Toyota Corolla Car with registration number KRD 444 FE and taken to unknown destination. Operatives of Anti-kidnapping (AK) wing of Operation Puff Adder quickly swung into action and the victim was rescued at Ukwuachi along Abakaliki/Enugu expressway.

“The kidnappers made away with the victim’s Samsung Galaxy Prime Core handset, his Toyota corolla car and a cash sum of #2,500.

“On 19th May, 2019, one Chibueze Okpara 33 years, a member of the kidnapping gang was arrested at Nkweagu Army Barracks Mammy Market by crack Operation Puff Adder detectives. The suspect mad useful statement to the police and investigation took the policemen to Enugu State, where the kidnapper’s kingpin and other members of the gang were arrested at the different locations in Enugu State”, given their names as: Chibueze Okorie (Male, 33 years), Chibuzor Onyia Onuigbo (Male, 30years), Agbo Emmanuel (Male, 31years) and Taoreed Folawewo(Male, 39years).

The Commissioner of Police also mentioned the 7 recovered stolen vehicles to include; “Toyota Corolla with registration number AQ 990 AA, Mercedes Benz S320 with registration AQ 01 AAA, Toyota Avalon XLE with registration number ENU 302 EQ, Toyota Corolla with registration number MA 08 APP, Innoson Jeep with registration number NKE 719 EV, Ford Escape with registration number FGE 415 TN, and Honda Odyssey with registration number ENU 905 RA.
He however, called the owners of the recovered stolen vehicles to come forward to claim the ownership with a genuine proof, as he further stated that the command has equally arrested 7 suspected cultists, given their names as: Ituma Henry (Male, 27 years), Akoshi Chidera (Male, 20 years), Anthony Nwite(Male, 36 years), Onyebuchi Nwokporo (Male, 39 years), Usulor Sunday (Male, 28 years), Samuel Ngwuta (Male, 19 years), and Abah Chukwudi Peter a.k.a Swager (Male, 26 years).

The Commissioner of Police said equally that, “on 31st May, 2019 one Friday Irem (male, 30years) was attacked by group of dreaded cultists and/or armed bandits who invaded his residence in Umuezali Oriuzor, attacked and inflicted several machete cuts and abandoned him in the pool of his blood. Upon receipt of the information operatives of Operation Puff Adder moved to the scene, rescued the victim and rushed him to Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where he was however, confirmed dead and his body thereafter was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
“The operatives subsequently embarked on a thorough manhunt which led to arrest of the fleeing suspects”, mentioned above; adding that 3 cutlasses and 2 axes were the exhibits recovered from the suspects.
Nevertheless, the command was said to have also arrested 4 suspected cultists identified as the alleged members of AYES/Vikings confraternity following the the report of a reprisal attack by rival group of one Ifeanyi Alegu a.k.a Bruno who was traced and murdered at Onueke in Ezza South council Area of the state on Ist June, 2019; confirmed that his corpse is still deposited in the same mortuary.

He as well unveiled that ‘on 11th May, 2019, the men of Operation Adder while on stop and search at Amasiri along market junction, Afikpo North Local government area, where one Uro Ifeanyichukwu, (male, 21 years) of Ezekwu Ezeke was arrested and upon search one locally made pistol was recovered from his person, One Henry Unya Obasi (Male, 38years) of Amobor Ndukwu, was also arrested upon search one locally made pistol was recovered from him”.
He enumerated the ammunition recovered from the suspects to include 9 locally made long guns, one English Barrett’s pistol, one G.P.M.G riffle mouth, 6 English pump action, 2 locally made pistol, one expended AK 47.

In the same vein, the CP said that his command has equally intervened in the area of vandalism, saying that the men of Operation Puff Adder nabbed Godwin Nwankwegu (male, 62 years and his alleged colleague, Monday Onyibe (Male, 26 years) for vandalising a transformer situated at Nwogudu Junction at Ozibo village in the state; also added that the suspects where caught with exhibits including half bucket of gasoline oil, spanners, axe and three installations.

He thus, stated that all the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of their investigation, assuring the Command’s determination and commitment to rid the state of all form of crimes and criminalities ; appreciating the state government for its continued support which has yielded a good result.
