Ebonyi State PDP Chieftain and the immediate past Commissioner for Education in Ebonyi state, Rt. Hon. Sabinus Nwankwegu has commended the relationship between Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu, representing Ebonyi North Zone in the National Assembly and Governor David Nweze, advising them to continue with their rapport, saying that the duo’s relationship has greatly led to the immense development of the young state.

Hon. Nwankwegu made this observation while interacting with newsmen on last Monday, at Grace Court Hotel, Abakaliki during the 2019/2020 official disbursement of scholarship fund to over 75 indigent students by Senator Sam Egwu representing Ebonyi North zone in the National Assembly.

According to Nwankwegu, Senator Egwu has been a real source of relief to Ebonyi people especially in the areas of education and peace building since he rose into the positions of trust politically.

“Sam Egwu is a man of humility, wisdom, and his rapport with our governor, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, has been a wonderful one, and indeed Ebonyians have been admiring them. They should continue in their rapport, I heard several times when our governor, Engr. Chief Umahi called him a great leader and indeed, Sam Egwu is a great leader. Our take is that the able Senator should continue helping with a good advice as this will benefit Ebonyi people when reached with our governor”, he noted.

Earlier, the former Commissioner explained that, apart from the Senator’s current programme anchored on paying the school fees of over 75 undergraduates selected across the council areas that make up Ebonyi North Zone, it has been an obvious life style of him since assumed office as the first civilian governor to liberate the state out of educational backwardness.

“Sam Egwu since assumed the position of governor, he carried the affairs of students at heart. He is the only man who has understood the difficulties associating with these students from this area. Because, we are a bit less-privileged and parents don’t have all it takes to make their wards, successful students.

“But Sam Egwu being one of us has realized what he passed through when he was a student, he decided to take it as his own personal programme to liberate Ebonyi people from academic backwardness”, he said.

He further stated that Egwu’s avowed determination to change all the ugly spells on his people’s educational backgrounds, has motivated him to introduce HIPAC programme, this according to him, led to the sending of many Ebonyi children to overseas to study on scholarship, said, the programme has resulted into many from the state bagging first degree certificates to PhDs levels.

He also said, Egwu on becoming the Senator representing Ebonyi North Zone in 2015 still picked up the programme, affecting the academic lives of people in the state.

He noted that the Senator’s scholarship fund disbursement to the students has taken place for two academic sessions, saying that, the Senator has a plan to increase the number of the beneficiaries regardless of the whooping amount of money involved to carry the feat.

He as well lauded Governor Umahi on his recent appointment of the Izzi Youth Leader, Comrade Ben Nwove, as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Utility in Ebonyi North Zone, saying that, the appointment has highly been adding many excellent remarks to the overwhelming litany of his achievements.

As he pledged supporting for the growth and development of the state, he charged the students to study hard to impress the senator and the state in general.

Meanwhile, Comrade Nwovu, has extolled the senator and also encouraged the students to appreciate the senator by making excellences in their studies.

Therefore, Josiah Ugama, Fidela Nkiruka Ogbaga, Mary-Jane Orich, among other beneficiaries expressed happiness for having received such kind gesture, promising to make the Senator and their state proud.
