Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru has urged journalists to always use their respective media outfits to engender unity in the society.
Speaker Nwifuru made this appeal Thursday at the state Assembly Complex, Nkaleke Road, Abakaliki while addressing the Association of Izzi Media Workers who paid him a courtesy visit.
According to the Speaker, ‘the work of every journalist is very vital, and all journalists are needed to work for the societal growth and development, because, the future of this country depends on how newsmen use their medium objectively to promote unity and progress of the people.’
He condemned the activities of external forces who engineer division among the people in order to rob them of their entitlement and urged the people to desist from such acts.
He called on members of the association cutting across every community in Izzi land and other parts of the country to continue working like a team, encouraging them to use one voice in building the unity of Izzi Nation and the country at large.
He noted that, there were many associations who had fought tirelessly to build Izzi unity like the Izzi Media Workers, but selfishness, greed and hatred could not allow them to achieve their mission, expressing optimism that if the newsmen could take cognizance of the sacred nature of their profession in line with their respective media outfits, they would go to any height in promoting peace and unity of Izzi clan.
Earlier, the President of the Association, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, appreciated the speaker for having set a good example which according to him led to his reemergence as the Honourable Speaker of the state Assembly and as well being reelected by his constituents to represent them in the state House for the third term, saying that the feats speak volume of his good leadership quality.
In a remark, a member of the Association, Prince Emmanuel Mbam Amadi thanked the Speaker for the warm reception and promised that the Association would be ever ready to partner him in rebuilding Izzi clan.
