At least, 60 persons yesterday evening escaped death following the collapse of Metro View Hotel, one of the popular hotels in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital territory.
The hotel is located close to Presco Campus of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki in the state capital city.
A management member of the hotel, Chief Austin Orji , who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the Company said, they had noticed a crack on some of the pillars holding the building, added that, the hotel management immediately cordoned off the side of building by starting renovations, which in his words it was on the process of the renovation that the building collapsed.
Orji said, those who lodged in the hotel were outside the building for a seminar when the incident took place, hinted that there was no life lost.
However, Chief Ejem Okoro, Special Assistant(SA) to Governor David Nweze Umahi on Capital territory, said the Hotel would remain sealed by the state government pending its investigation on the incident.
Our Correspondent gathered that the Hotel was commissioned on the 28th May 2005 by former Governor Martin Elechi’s led administration.
