FUT Minna Alumni To Build 5,000 Bed Space Hostel
…Says female Students drop out due to accommodation shortage

The Federal University of Technology Minna, Alumni Association has decried the high rate of drop out amongst the female students due to lack of accommodation.
The National President of the Alumni, Ahmad Yahaya Alhassan disclosed this during the reunion and dinner of the association in Kaduna.

He said lack of accommodation within the campus has forced many female students to stay out of the school premises, which according to him has been a great factor working against their schooling.

He further said ,” Having identified this factor as one of the factors responsible for the drop out of some of the students especially amongst the female students, we have resolved to come to the aid of the institution in our own little way and build an edifice of 5,000 bed space hostels.

” Information gathered revealed that these female students at times secured accommodation in their male counterparts house, and mostly they stay back to take care of the house while others are in school receiving lectures. So, in most cases, this led to their drop out”.

Alhassan, in his goodwill message commending the efforts of Kaduna branch for taking the lead said the Alumni association is ready and willing to lend a helping shoulder for FUT Minna students to lean on for self-development.

He added that the vision of the institution to develop quality entrepreneurs to help the nation’s economy must always be supported by the alumni.

While promising that the alumni would continue to play a mentorship role to the students of the institution, Alhassan says: ” we are ready to mentor them to get to higher heights of the economy”.
Earlier, in his lecture titled: Building New Realities, Establishing New Positions, Using Old Bond Of Friendship: Like Unto Technological Features, Yahaya Salleh Ibrahim said alumni is a symbol of authority, a symbol that makes various institution great just like the Cambridge university graduate, Awolowo university Ahmadu Bello university, University of Ibadan.
” What we are trying to do here today is to mobilise these realities to improve the institutions and improve the country.

“Today, we are in a a virtual world, virtual reality.
“Quite a number of us are working in different places. I am a lecturer and quite a number of us are engineers. Some of them architects they can help by developing the institution,” he said.

In his remarks, Chairman, Kaduna State Chapter, Engr. Muhyideen Alimi said the reunion entails celebrating the old students, adding that with crowd funding method, the alumni could be of help to the lives of the students.

Alimi who preview the hostels’ architectural plan during the dinner further explained that the alumni has decided to come up with laudable projects such as Students Hostels Development and Shea NUT industry among others.
He advised that members of the alumni association must not relent in their efforts to ensure that the projects come to reality.

The project which is under the Chairmanship of Vice President South, Mrs Kuburat Ishola promises to be a dream come true because according to the chairman of the committee all hands are on deck to make the project a reality.

The event was ended with presentation of award and colourful cultural display, the koroso dance.
