Kaduna Rerun Elections : Senator Laah Tells Electorate to Protect Votes
…Warns Against Rigging , Electoral Crisis
Ahead of the rerun election scheduled to hold on Saturday at Sanga and Kagarko areas , the Senator representing ,Kaduna South Senatorial District ,Senator Danjuma Laah has called on the electorate in the affected polling units to not only come out en masse to vote ,but also protect the votes Cast .
The lawmaker ,who embarked on tour of the Sanga and Kagarko local government areas to campaign for his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) also warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against rigging .
According to him , it only when elections are credible ,free and fair that the results are accepted and not challenged in court .
In chat with journalists after the tour, Senator Danjuma Laah ,said it is very necessary to come and campaign for opposition party, PDP , because of the importance of the rerun elections to the party in Southern Kaduna area .
He also said the essence of the tour is to charge and mobilise the electorate in Sanga and Kagarko local government areas to ensure their votes are protected.
” I urged the electorate to not only vote ,but also monitor the votes ; ensure that results are announced and recorded in their presence before they leave the polling units .
” I have equally asked them to ensure strick vigilance and watch out for ballot snatchers during the elections .” He stated .
While calling on INEC to ensure that only people with voters cards be allowed to vote , he reiterated his call for electorate to monitor votes cast ,guard them to final collation centre and ensure a winner is announced before they go to their houses .
” I urge INEC to conduct free and fair elections in the areas affected .The staff should fear God ,knowing fully that we would all give account of our deeds before God .It avoids rigging ,which characterised previous elections .He said .
The lawmaker , who maintained that Southern Kaduna people are prepared to vote candidates of their choice, again called on INEC to ensure that results reflect choice of the people .
He however , advised the security agencies discharge their duties in accordance with law ,noting ” i have urged all Southern Kaduna citizens to avoid fight or crisis that could mar the electoral process .”
Laah who expressed joy over the manner the Southern Kaduna people received him during campaign tour said , there is no basis for apprehension because, the People’s Democratic Party has won the elections.
