By Victor Nwegede
The Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has sent his hearty wishes and prayers to the Muslim community across the world marking Eid-Al-Fitr celebrations today.
The Speaker shared his gratitude with the Muslims regarding their Eid-al-Fitr ceremony which according to him, is a glorious time for the Muslim Community around the world, in Nigeria and particularly, Ebonyi State.
Hon. Nwifuru explained that Eid-Al-Fitr festival is celebrated for the breaking of the 29-30 day period of dawn-to-dusk fast, rounding off the month of Ramadam.
“The “Festival of Breaking the Fast” is preceded by a month of fasting, prayer and sober reflection. In these worrying times when the world is battling the pandemic – Corona Virus, Muslims are charged to activate the fruits of Eid-al-Fitr – love, almsgiving, charity, togetherness and prayer to help heal the world, Nigeria and our dear State, Ebonyi”, he said.
He noted that the Government of Ebonyi State under the leadership of Governor David Nweze Umahi has always preached and exemplified lasting love and togetherness between various religious sects in the State, pointing that the Muslim Community in the State has recently received their palliatives from the Ebonyi State Government to help cushion the effects of COVID-19, stressing that the gesture simplified the leadership example by Governor Umahi’s led administration.
In his wishes and prayers, the Speaker said, “May the blessings oozing from this holy observance restore hope to our world to keep us safe, together and prosperous.
“So on behalf of my respectable family, Honourable Members, floor functionaries and indeed the entire staff of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, I wish you our brothers, sisters and friends a blessed and happy Eid-al-Fitr.”
