Kaduna Peace Commission Reiterates Commitment to Establish Sustainable Peace Structure in Kajuru
The Vice Chairman of Kaduna State Peace Commission , Priscilla Ankut Esq. has expressed determination to establish an enduring peace structure at Kajuru local government area.
The Vice Chairman ,who disclosed this at Hotel Seventeen,Kaduna during a 3-Day Interest-Based Negotiation and Mediation capacity training programme for the Kajuru Truth Peace and Reconciliation Committee members, said the aim of organising the programme is to create a platform for achieving sustainable peace and harmonious coexistence in Kajuru local government area of the State .
While reiterating the resolve of the Peace Commission to transform conflict resolution into intangible nature of peace at Kajura and other local government areas of the State,she also revealed that Kajuru has started a good process of reconciliation and expressed hope that it will be a pilot initiative for lasting peace.
She however, thanked participants for taking time out their tight schedules to attend the community initiatives to promote peace and genuine reconciliation .
The way you are handling and managing conflicts ,other local government areas will have no option than to emulate Kajuru.” She said.
Speaking on the importance of dialogue as a means to achieve sustainable peace ,she tasked the participants to consider all the necessary measures to adopt and end conflicts in Kajuru .
She thanked Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Kaduna Commissioner on Security and Home Affairs ,Mr. Samuel Aruwan for their support.
Fielding question from journalists ,Mercy Corps Deputy Chief of Party in Nigeria, Sani Suleiman said there cannot be peace in crisis torn communities without the deliberate adoption of dialogue.
In Kaduna for the dialogue session organised by his organisation in partnership with Kaduna State Peace Commission for Kajuru Local Government Area stakeholders at Hotel Seventeen ,Kaduna ,Suleiman said ,” In conflict situations, this safe space provides opportunity for government and citizens to engage themselves to collaborate and work together to sustain peace.”

He explained that creating a safe space for stakeholders to dialogue brings about peaceful coexistence.
“You cannot achieve peace without creating space for dialogue between the groups involved in the crisis,” he stressed.
Speaking further, he said that the session for Kajuru stakeholders is different from other engagements because ,it is a viable representation of groups.
“We are encouraging them to further create groups at community levels like women groups, youth groups and others to further carry on what they have learnt here,” he added.
The Deputy Chief of Party further stressed the uniqueness of the engagement.
“This is different it is not a one off engagement. This is an intervention that will go on for two years or more,” he assured.
On how they intend to reach the armed militia ,who for now remain unknown, he said in the long run, they would be fished out.
“This is a beginning by starting with community leaders involved, help them to understand the stereotype and addressing issues of criminal elements supporting the culprits engaging in the killings, they would now identify the informants, who would in turn name the Perpetrators,” he said.
