Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state on Thursday tasked Chairmen of the twenty Local Government areas of the state to renew their synergy with security agencies working in their respective areas.
The governor was speaking when he chaired a meeting attended by Heads of Security Agencies, Local Government Chairmen and their Deputies and other stakeholders held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi.
Governor Bala Mohammed observed that, working in active synergy with security agencies by the local government chiefs would go along way in tackling security challenges through prompt intervention.
According to him, with security challenges facing local government areas of the state, there is need for all hands to be on deck to overcome the situation.
“I welcome you to this very important meeting with all our stakeholders, I want to reaffirm my commitment towards supporting our elected Chairmen to perform optimally and meet the yearnings and aspirations of citizens.”
On developmental projects, the governor reminded the councils chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by initiating projects that have direct impact on the lives of the citizenry especially the vulnerable groups.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mohammed Sabiu Baba said the meeting is to review security situation at grassroots and to deliberate on local government administration.
Addressing journalists after the closed door meeting, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulrazaq Nuhu Zaki said a number of measures towards the advancement of the operations of local governments have been taken during the meeting.
Nuhu Zaki said henceforth, all the Local Government Chairmen would be responsible for preparing nominal rolls and payment vouchers for payment of salaries of their workers as part of efforts of the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed to sanitize the system.
“During our meeting, we have deliberated on so many issues and I want to use this medium to appreciate His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed for his support to our Councils Chairmen and for his concern to the welfare of citizens of the state.”
The Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government Yusuf Garba who spoke on behalf of the Chairmen said with the resolution reached at the meeting especially on the payment of salaries, the Chairmen will continue to support the state government to tackle numerous challenges of salary administration.
