Trained beneficiaries of the Kaduna State Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Support (APPEALS), project met with relevant stakeholders and professionals in different Agribusiness endeavours.
The APPEALS programme of the Kaduna State Government under Mal. Nasir El-Rufai with support from the world bank is to build the capacity of beneficiaries in the area of fiduciary management and financial sustainability of their agribusiness enterprises.
However, the interactive session from Information gathered is to create a platform for the the fourth and fifth batches of the APPEALS beneficiaries in the State to interact with relevant the stakeholders and professionals for improved and enhanced agribusiness knowledge.
The Women and Youth Livelihood Specialist , Kaduna APPEALS Project, Mal. Ibrahim Yakubu in an interview with Journalists ,shortly after the opening ceremony held at Asa Pyramid Hotel, Kaduna said the training ,which an interactive meeting for the fourth and fifth batch of beneficiaries is designed to build their capacities on the area of agribusiness they have been exposed to.
According to him , the beneficiaries are trained to understand the theoretical and practical aspects of Agribusiness and to educate them on the next line of action to undertake to grow the business.
While pointing out that the Kaduna State APPEALS under WYEP, beneficiaries are selected from the 11-priority value-chain commodities viz Rice, Cocoa, Poultry, Cashew, Maize, Dairy, Ginger, Cassava, Tomato, Aquaculture and Wheat, he emphasised , “The basic framework of the project is basically for intensive training, empowerment and support of beneficiaries.
Speaking on the activities line up , he explained ” Under the Women and Youth Empowerment (WYEP) program ,we have four line of activities ,the first one is training, business name registration ,grant and mentorship .
” Now they have recieved the training .We gave them questionnaire to fill on kind of enterprises the intend to undertake ,Now they have returned the questionnaire and we have engaged the Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) for their business name registration and they have finished and they at the stage of business investment plan .
” We have recieved about 299 business investment plan with no objection from the World Bank,which comprises of 800 beneficiaries .They have received no objection from the world Bank pending Empowerment .
“We have started the issue of account opening and they have gone far.When the bank has finished the issue of sorting , screening the BVN, National ID card and if it corresponds with the National ID cards and BVN ,the account will be opened and the grant sent through their accounts.
The objective of the Project is to enhance agricultural productivity of small and medium scale farmers and improve value addition along priority value chains in the Participating States.
The value-chains in focus at the Kaduna State APPEALS project are informed by the need to achieve food security (maize), enhance livelihoods (dairy) and promote export (ginger).
