Breaking: Tension in PDP as APC woos Jonathan with 2023 presidential ticket
…Badaru Malami, Buni locked in the bid for running-mate
An unexpected tension has enveloped the PDP as the political kingmakers in APC ate said to finally resolved to offer the party’s 2023 presidential ticket to former President Goodluck Jonathan. On the heels of the development, which took analysts by surprise, the party’s Acting National Chairman – Mai Mala Buni, Minister of Justice Malami and current Jigawa State Governor – Badaru were said to be fighting fiercely to grab the slot of presidential running mate.
Dependable sources familiar with the latest game-plan against the PDP said arrangements have already reached “advanced stage, to give a rousing welcome to Jonathan’s formal decamping into the APC any time soon”, but “more precisely few weeks away in the month of August, 2021”.
The sources further explained that President Muhammadu Buhari is expected back in Abuja soon, to celebrate the “grabbing of another big fish” out of the opposition camp, to give the 2023 agenda a more befitting strategic foundation.
Sources explained that both Mai Mala Buni, Minister Malami and Badaru have since swung into action, discretely consulting, expanding their reach amongst stakeholders including the clergy and monarchs across the Northern and Southern parts of the country.
Sources further revealed that late night strategy meetings are being held on daily basis by the associates and foot-soldiers of the three Vice Presidential hopefuls in a bid to strengthen the ligaments of consultations.
While APC’s Acting National Chairman, Mai Mala Buni and Governor Badaru of Jigawa State were said to have travelled to Saudi Arabia ” to seek for Devine intervention”, the trip is seen by observers as another familiar consultation strategy. It is believed that the ongoing consultations by the Vice Presidential hopefuls could culminate into designing their draft cashflow analysis for consideration, ahead of the 2023 jostle for the number two seat.
Meanwhile, Mai Mala Buni has expectedly used the goodwill he has built as Acting National Chairman of the ruling party, to start “building a formidable campaign structure” ahead of the declaration of Jonathan as the party’s joker for 2023.
Meanwhile, diehard supporters of Minister Malami are believed to be working assiduously in support of their favored candidate while reaching out to respected political power brokers across Northern and Southern parts of the country. His supporters are said to be hinging their solidarity on “the urgent need to have young Turks in the frontline of the 2023 politics”.
While battle hots up, according to reliable sources, some schemings, horse-trading and “outsmarting of opponents” to give one another a head-start on the presidential running-mate slot has been going with high velocity.
As the ruling party awaits the return to Abuja, of its national leader, who doubles as the President, it is obvious that Nigerians have not yet seen the last of heavy political strategizing for the nation’s presidency.
