The President of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) Comrade Yerima Shettima has reiterated his position on restructuring Nigeria .
According to him , as one of the formidable voices in the North with a sound background knowledge of the positive advantages of “Restructuring”, having been part of struggles for a united country , Nigeria can only move from forward in all areas of development if it is restructured.
For Shettima ,NIgeria will continue to produce mediocres as leaders if the status quo is maintained .
The President of AYCF, Ambassador Yerima Shettima who stated this during a chat with a group of selected Journalists in Kaduna today said his ultimate desire is to be alive and witness a Nigeria that works for everyone, when power is decentralized.
He stressed, ” The more we continue to centralize powers, the more we will keep having people not worthy in governance.”
While noting that there is need for all stakeholders ,leaders and opinion leaders across the six geo-political zones to meet and reach an amicable resolutions to restructure Nigeria in the interest of Progress and Development, he expressed hope that , “Someday, I will be alive to see the structure with people doing better in their various regions like it was done on the sixties ” .
He recalled that the regional system of government promoted healthy competition amongst component units of the regions ,with then Frontline leaders, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Late Sir Ahmadu Bello , Sardauna of Sokoto , working hard to ensure progressive Development in all sectors of the economy .
He however said , there is nothing wrong if Nigeria is Restructured to reflect the reality of governance ,her people and Development .
