Group under aegis of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Youth Wing of North-West Zone has hailed the Federal High Court, Abuja for discharging and acquitting, former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, of money laundering charges.

According to the group , Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the ruling on the no-case submission filed by the defence, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had failed to link Turaki and his co-defendants with the offences contained in the 16-count charge.

It could be recalled that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the EFCC had, in the 16-count charge, accused the ex-minister and others of unlawful and criminal misappropriation of N715 million.

The PDP group in a press statement signed by Hon. Ibrahim Ahmadu, the Zonal Youth leader of PDP National Youth Wing of North-West Zone said, the former Minister has not only being discharged and acquitted, but also vindicated and can now move freely with his head high up as a committed and dedicated public office holder, who served his fatherland meritoriously.

The Statement further reads: ” We are happy that Justice Ekwo dislodged all the evidence of the prosecution witnesses called in the matter during cross-examination, describing the 12 witnesses relied on by EFCC as “tainted witnesses.”

“We are satisfied that the judge said Turaki was not a signatory to the account of the Ministry and did not authorise any payment or make any transfer of funds.

“For those in doubt , the former minister was not a member of the Ministerial Tender Board and that there was no inflow of funds from the account of the ministry to Turaki’s company.”

“We are congratulating the former for what could describe as a legal battle victory well earned and deserved .”
