Group under aegis of North Central Youths Movement for All Progressives Congress (APC) outrightly blamed Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for Senator Smart Adeyemi’s inability to win the senatorial primaries.

According to the group, losing Senator Adeyemi in the forthcoming Senate is a huge loss to Kogi State and entire Nigeria as a nation.

In a press statement signed by the Leader of the APC Youths , Comrade Aliyu Hamza, the group expressed displeasure over what it described as alleged “Undue Interference” by the Governor Yahaya Bello, who they claimed sponsored delegates against a sitting Senator that has evidently proved his worth as the voice of the Voiceless and a lawmaker with a reputation for speaking the truth to power always.

The group queried, how can a “Three-time ranking Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that served as President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, be dropped for an inexperienced individual?

“We all know that an experience of someone that was elected to represent Kogi West Senatorial District after taking office on 29 May 2007 and reelected for the third time on the 30th of November 2019 is not a small feat .

“His contributions on the floor of the Senate on matters of insecurity; development and unity as well as progress of Nigeria and the masses are enough reasons such a high ranking lawmaker with solid background in field of journalism should not be thrown away for trivial political issues.

“Certainly the considerations for a senator that has performed well are rated by the number of bills sponsored and record shows that he had the highest number of bills on aggregate.

“More so, that from information gathered, he is one of Senators has not missed a day in the Senate are enough reasons Governor Yahaya Bello should look beyond personal political interest .

” Senator Adeyemi is a lawmaker that has proved to all Nigerians that Law making is a very serious business which is not meant for bench warmers.” The group stated .

However , while noting that Adeyemi had embarked on wide consultation with stakeholders and loyalists in Lokoja, the State capital, where he formally declared interest to contest for the Kogi West Senatorial ticket once again, the group expressed surprise that despite the huge support he got and reassurance from them to return to Senate ,the governor went against the wish of the people .

Stressing, ” The function of the senate is to make law to promote socio- economic development that will have a far reaching effects on the Nigerian masses and this he has done and very “.

“It unfortunate that Kogi State has lost a voice and a notable lawmaker ,who would been in the high ranking and advantageous position for the benefit of the state and its people .”
