The Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Kebbi state, Muhammad Adamu Aliero, has been alleged to have cornered and diverted Constituency projects worth more than one billion naira.
Alhaji Ibrahim Dangana, a resident of Katanga in Maiyama local government area of Kebbi State in a statement explained that the Senator was alleged to have used his clout to corner the contract for the supply of Massey Ferguson tractors meant for farmers in Kebbi Central Senatorial District worth #200,000,000.
The statement stated, “The Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of the State now in his third term in the upper chamber of the National Assembly was alleged to have used his clout to corner the contract for the supply of Massey Ferguson tractors meant for farmers in Kebbi Central Senatorial District worth #200,000,000.
“Available records show that only four Massey Ferguson tractors were supplied and allocated to the Sarkin Noman Kebbi Jigga, Alhaji Awwal Aleiro, Alhaji Bashir Gwandu and Alhaji Garba Udulu.
“Three of these individuals are close cronies of Aliero while the fourth is his biological brother. After the public display, even these four tractors were retrieved and the beneficiaries were paid a measly N200,000 compensation.”
The statement further explained that till date, Senator Aliero has not accounted for the outstanding amount of this massive constituency project that could have transformed agriculture in the Senatorial District.
The statement added, “A similar scenario played out during Aliero’s first term as Senator when the #2 billion Naira Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intervention under the Anchor Borrowers Programme was also cornered for the exclusive development of his Labana Farms.
“To divert the attention of the people away from these atrocities, Aliero’s favourite ploy is pitting the indigenes of Zuru, Yawuri and Birnin-Kebbi Emirates against one another. The fault lines of ethnicity and the issue of power rotation is his instrument.
“Not satisfied with the looting of the people’s patrimony, Aliero also exercises his putative role of political godfather to anoint elected and selected appointees who are compelled to make massive returns on his ‘investments.
“The questions on the minds of everybody in the Kebbi Central Senatorial District is how much will be enough to satisfy the Senator and his callous cohorts and when will the dividends of democracy begin to trickle down to the people for whom the projects were meant and who really need them?
“Already, these shenanigans have sent Senator Aliero out of the ruling All Progressives Congress. His defection back to the People’s Democratic Party is a desperate attempt to return to the Senate for the fourth time.
“However, with the 2023 General Elections just around the corner, the hapless electorate are poised to show Senator Muhammad Aliero the way out. And unless he remits the looted funds for all the aborted constituency projects, their next move may be to legally confiscate what rightly belongs to them.”
